BES 5.0 Service Pack 1 Now Released

BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 Service Pack 1 has been released.

Here are some exciting new feature additions in this new version:
- BlackBerry device dashboard – to access the BlackBerry Monitoring Service from BlackBerry devices. You can view alarms, messages, and the status of BlackBerry® Enterprise Server instances and BlackBerry Enterprise Server components.
- Enhancements to BlackBerry Administration Service – right click on user accounts, search option removed if less than 100 users on BES
- VMware Certification
- Support for Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008

Google Set To Release Own Brand Phone Soon

Google is setting up to compete with mobile phone providers with its own brand handset, and a phone service providing free calls.
Google has already launched its Android operating system, but this handset will be the first official Google phone bearing the company logo.
Google will continue working with HTC to make the new handset, which will be one of the most sophisticated smartphones in the world when it is released. continue

Troubleshooting Wireless Email Reconciliation for BES

New KB from RIM defining causes for when wireless email is not syncing properly:
Wireless email message reconciliation is not functioning including wireless deletes and read/unread message status.
The issue is caused by one of the following:
- Wireless email message reconciliation is not configured correctly on the BlackBerry smartphone.
- The current wireless reconciliation option is not recognized by the BlackBerry Device Software.
- The Desktop [CMIME] service book on the BlackBerry smartphone is corrupted.
- The in-cradle status stops responding in the BlackBerry smartphone user’s mailbox.

RIM have released a new KB detailing features BES 5.0 provides with BlackBerry Device Firmware 5.
Overview
BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 5.0 provides additional functionality to BlackBerry smartphones that not were not available in previous versions of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The following is a list of new features for BlackBerry smartphones:
Note: All of these features require BlackBerry Device Software 5.0.
Add, Remove, Rename Folders from the BlackBerry smartphone - You can manage your email folders on your email client using a BlackBerry smartphone that is associated with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 5.0 and running BlackBerry Device Software version 5.0. No further configuration is required to use this functionality. continue

BlackBerry Keyboard or Trackball Not Functioning

BlackBerry keys or trackball not working? RIM have released an article which may help:
Some or all of the keys on the BlackBerry smartphone keyboard, the trackball, trackwheel, or trackpad are not functioning properly.
Complete the following tasks to resolve this issue:
- Back up the BlackBerry smartphone data. For instructions, see KB12487.
- Use the application loader tool to delete all data and applications from the BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions, see procedure 3 in KB02318.
- Re-install the BlackBerry® Device Software using the application loader tool. For instructions, see KB11320.

Telefonica O2 Invests More Millions In UK 3G HSDPA

O2 UK’s 3G HSDPA network currently covers around 85 percent of the population and it plans to make substantial improvements. O2 UK has invested half a billion pounds in its 3G network over the last two years and has now scheduled a further investment of hundreds of millions of pounds over the coming years.
The 3G network growth and investment will accelerate growth of the 3G network and make sure its 3G mobile phone and mobile broadband customers have adequate mobile data bandwidth.

Maximum Number of Contacts That Can Be Synchronized Over The Air

RIM have released a new article advising the maximum number of contacts that can be synced over the air to a BlackBerry device. So if you are trying to sync 10000+ contacts and some contacts are missing…
There is a default of 8K (approximately 8,000 records) when synchronizing contacts over the wireless network.
Perform one of the following two steps:
- Reduce the number of contacts synchronizing over the wireless network to less than 8K.
- Perform a wired synchronization which allows for 32K (approximately 32,000 records).

To reset default theme settings on a BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following steps:
- From the Home screen on the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options.
- Click Theme.
- Display the menu and select Reset Theme Defaults.
