Last night at 11pm, Samsung unveiled their latest edition to the Galaxy range, the Galaxy S4.
The Galaxy S4 includes a rear facing 13MP resolution camera and a front facing 2MP resolution camera as well as a 4G, NFC, 2GB RAM and a 1.9 GHz quad core processor. It also features the latest Gorilla Glass 3 as well as the traditional HD Super AMOLED display that measures 5 inches and will run Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) upon an expected release in April. Ofcom have announced the winners of the 4G mobile auction. After 50 rounds of bidding which raised just over £2.3 billion, both Vodafone and O2 were able to secure parts of the network for their planned 4G coverage. Continue reading
Apple has just released an iOS update for the iPhone and iPad. People will have access to improved, as well as new features (depending on what model they have).
The main features are:
- Added security and features enhancements
- Extended 4G LTE support
- Integrated Fandango into Siri (market dependant)
- iTunes Match improvements
- Bluetooth support for Apple TV
- Upgraded APIs for developers

Last Tuesday, Ofcom opened up the registration for parties interested in bidding for the 4G licenses next year. Applicants had until 16:00 on 11th December to express their interests as well as submit the initial £100,000 deposit. Continue reading
Vodafone UK has given more details on how they will be sharing masts across the UK with O2 UK. As reported here back in October and June, instead of having seperate masts for each network, they will be putting their masts and O2’s masts together, getting rid of duplicates and building out some new ones. After publishing a report on the state of the UK’s communications infrastructure, Ofcom have unveiled plans on how it will tackle consumers’ growing demand for data on the move.
According to the report, 20 million Gigabytes of data is now being consumed in a month by mobile phone users. Compared to the same period last year, where 9 million Gigabytes of data was used, this is an increase of more than double the amount, an equivalent of downloading 5 billion music tracks. They predict that this could increase by 80 times that amount buy 2030. Even with the advent of 4G next year, Ofcom forsee an issue of possible “capacity crunch” in the forseable future as networks struggle to meet the data demands of its customers. Continue reading

This timetable set out the dates of the principal steps that mobile network providers must take in order to be allowed to bid for a portion of the spectrum that was released earlier this year when the TV analogue signal was switched off. Continue reading
Vodafone UK took over the front pages of some of the nation’s newspapers this morning to push the benefits of its upcoming 4G service, ahead of Ofcom’s auction early next year.
The advert cites Vodafone winning Best Network earlier this month at the Mobile Choice Awards as voted by the public, and takes it a step further by declaring “After being voted the best, there is only one way to go. Better.” Continue reading
