Ofcom has announced a proposal to change the way consumers are charged for calls to Freephone numbers, 08, 09 and 118 numbers, known as non-geographic customer service numbers. These numbers currently charge more if rung from a mobile line, compared to a landline. The variance in the costs to these numbers from different suppliers currently causes confusion to users. Blackberry Link is the new way to transfer all your content from your Blackberry 10 device to your computer. This includes pictures, songs and video. It can also be used to transfer your data from a previous device to your new Blackberry 10.

It has seamless content management built in, allowing you to transfer your data to your device over Wi-Fi or USB. Blackberry Link also offers support for iTunes and Windows Media Player, so photos, video and other media can be synced easily.

Blackberry Link can be used to securely backup and restore your device data. The software can also be used to update your device firmware.

RIM (now rebranded as “BlackBerry”) today have launched 2 BlackBerry devices. The BlackBerry Z10 touchscreen and Q10 with a Qwerty keyboard. Both devices will be touch screen and based on the established QNX platform. The Z10 is ready to go on sale tomorrow by all providers and the Q10 in a couple of months.

The BlackBerry Z10 will deliver an industry leading 4.2″ display with 356PPI and 768 x 1280 pixels. It is LTE Ready, powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz ARM processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB on device storage (expandable through the use of a microSD card) and a 1800mAh battery. The Z10 requires a micro SIM, like the iPhone 4S or Samsung Galaxy S III and measures 130 x 65 x 9mm with a weight of 135g. The rear camera is 8-megapixel and the forward facing camera at 2 megapixels and able to record in HD 1080p. Continue reading

RIM has today announced the rebranding of its BlackBerry App World as “BlackBerry World”. RIM says that the name change was made to reflect a shift in the sort of items available for purchase from the store as the company moves to BlackBerry 10 and beyond. BlackBerry World will offer more than just apps, with videos and music available there as well.

Current BlackBerry users will see the changes to the BlackBerry App World in the next few days and will have access to the range of new services that will be on offer in time for the launch of BlackBerry 10. Continue reading

Registered BlackBerry Management Center users received emails yesterday from Research In Motion announcing that the service and its support will close on 10th January 2013.

Designed for businesses with three to 100 employees, the BlackBerry Management Center allowed easy set up and troubleshooting of employee email and helped protect lost or stolen smartphones, as well as the ability for wireless backup and restore. Continue reading
