Important: This article is only applicable if Microsoft Outlook is installed on the same computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The 1.0.2536.0 version of MAPI32.dll is also included with the 1.2.1 CDO Client provided by Microsoft.

Installing Microsoft Outlook on the same computer as the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software is not a supported configuration.

Note: Microsoft does not support installing Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange components on the same computer. BlackBerry Enterprise Server software requires that Microsoft Exchange components are installed on the same computer to communicate with the Microsoft Exchange Server. For more information on how to set Microsoft Exchange permissions, please see KB288836, or visit the Microsoft Help and Support site and search for “Supported MAPI configurations”.

New KB released by RIM in conjunction with their BES Express v5.0.1 launch:

BlackBerry smartphones that have a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server and/or BlackBerry® Internet Service data plan from their wireless service provider can be activated on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express version 5.0 SP1.

Before attempting an activation, use the BlackBerry Expert Support Center (BESC) Enterprise Activation tool to identify which activation methods are available for the BlackBerry smartphone you want to activate. For more information on how to access and use the BlackBerry Expert Support Center Enterprise Activation Readiness tool, please see KB21140.

Note: BlackBerry smartphones cannot be activated over the wireless network or the organization’s Wi-Fi® network if they have a data plan for BlackBerry Internet Service only.

RIM have posted their latest knowledge base article, explaining the cause and resolution behind delayed emails on BES Exchange BlackBerry smartphones.

Emails appear in the Outlook inbox, but the arrival of the email on the BlackBerry takes longer than is expected.

The fault is caused by blocked MAPI threads in MS Exchange and can be resolved in a number of ways, including rebooting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or assigning BlackBerry users to a static mailbox agent.
