O2 may have been pipped to the post by Vodafone on bringing the BlackBerry 8800 to market but O2 are the first to release the device firmware code for download. O2′s version of the code (4.2.1.73) is a slightly different version number to Vodafone’s (4.2.1.68) but this is not to say Vodafone are running a more outdated version, as of course the version numbers will differ between mobile carriers.

We had been running a beta BlackBerry 8800 for a couple of months which was running very early code (4.2.1.43). We have certainly found that updating to the 4.2.1.73 version the GPS receiver in the device can now lock on to GPS satellites much quicker than before.
