The Pentagon has cleared BlackBerry 10 connected via BES 10 and Samsung Android devices connected via Samsung’s Android Knox, for use within the Department of Defense (DoD).

With a very large percentage of BlackBerry devices already being used within the Pentagon (470,000 out of 600,000), the role of BlackBerry including devices and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 continues to be important and relevant for security conscious organisations.

The approval allows all DoD customers to use the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 smartphones, and BlackBerry PlayBook tablets on DoD networks.

Samsung have annouced that it has now shipped over 30 million of its flagship handset, the Galaxy S III in a period of only 5 months. In comparison, the previous model, the Galaxy S II took 14 months to hit the same benchmark. Continue reading

Samsung Electronics has become the first smartphone maker to release a device featuring Microsoft’s latest mobile software, beating Nokia to the crunch by a matter of days. The brief announcement on Wednesday at a Berlin electronics show comes amid expectations that smartphone makers may turn increasingly to Windows devices after a US jury decided many of Samsung’s Google Android-based phones infringed Apple patents. The International Data Corporation’s (IDC) today released its Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report for Q2 of 2012. The report shows the breakdown of smartphone operating systems (OS) in all handset worldwide shipments over the months April, May and June, covering Android, iOS, BlackBerry OS, Symbian, Windows 7/Windows mobile and Linux.
