Held in the magnificent surroundings of the Duke of Beaufort’s Gloucestershire Park near Bath, the Badminton Horse Trials, in 2006 sponsored by Mitsubishi, is one of the most difficult and exhilarating equestrian events – the pinnacle of the world’s Three-Day Event calendar.

Horses and riders, subject to numerous inspections expecting the highest of standards, must complete a dressage test demonstrating Obedience, Discipline, Accuracy and Elegance. They then need to be fit and strong to complete a challenging 4 mile cross-country course in a set time. Finally they need to complete a course of show-jumps designed to put their agility and accuracy at speed to the test.

Last year International changes to the format of the sport of Three Day Eventing, removing the steeplechase and roads and tracks, which had been slowly introduced over the past few years, were bought to maturity, ensuring a spectacular 2006 event.
