BlackBerry has revolutionised mobile email for some 18 million users worldwide.
There are principally three BlackBerry configurations:
BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES)
An evolved, proven service representing the pinnacle of wireless desktop level communication
on a hand held device. The BES provides its users with wireless email, contacts,
calendar, tasks and notes from their desktop email client to their BlackBerry handheld,
all backed up by wireless centralised IT management and reporting, underpinned by
government accredited levels of security.
BlackBerry Professional Software (BPS)
Designed for deployments of up to 30 users, the BlackBerry Professional Software
version of the BES provides all of the core functionality of BlackBerry Enterprise
Server, but allows for a reduced setup budget for these smaller user bases.
Unlike BlackBerry Enterprise Server, BPS can be installed on the same physical machine
as your email server, therefore reducing hardware and Microsoft Windows licensing
costs. What's more, BlackBerry Professional Software is entirely free - the only
server related outlay being your BlackBerry user licenses.
BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS)
The stand alone BlackBerry Internet Service is the out-of-the-box BlackBerry solution
designed for individual users with no available Microsoft, Lotus or Novell email
server platform. It has no server software and can be entirely configured online
in minutes using just a computer with an internet connection, allowing you to configure
up to 10 email accounts to a single device using the intuitive web based interface.
